Mike Fontaine is filmmaker and Special Effects Makeup Designer based in NYC. At nine years old, Mike became a protégé of Dick Smith—the legendary makeup artist behind The Exorcist and The Godfather—who mentored him into adulthood.

Mike received an Oscar nomination for his work on Colin Farrell as the Penguin in The Batman, Guild Awards for Coming 2 America and The Penguin, and an Emmy nomination for Boardwalk Empire. His 50+ film credits include The Wolf of Wall Street and The Place Beyond the Pines.

Mike is thrilled about the success of Ryan Coogler’s film Sinners where he served as Prosthetic Makeup Designer. He led a team of 25 artists to create over 80 effects. Recently, Mike worked with Josh Safdie and Timothee Chalamet on the upcoming film Marty Supreme.

As a writer/director, Mike continues to explore his fascination with genre storytelling. His short films have screened at dozens of international film festivals including Sitges, Telluride Horror, Screamfest, and Strasbourg.
